Calling all coaches! We are excited for the upcoming hockey season and are thankful to have the support of our outstanding volunteer coaches. Without the commitment of our coaches, minor hockey would not be possible.

Please complete the Coaches and Bench Staff registration  by September 20 to be considered for U11-U18 coaching opportunities.

Roles

Coaches’ primary role is to instruct, lead and mentor players. Additional roles include:

Head Coach

• Communicate with players, parents, assistant coaches, manager, parent liaison
• Work with Team Manager to facilitate parent meeting, book practice ice and plan special events (team-building, tournaments, wind-up)
• Plan and facilitate occasional coach meetings
• Plan and facilitate practices
• Manage bench during games

Assistant Coach

• Support Head Coach in facilitating practices and managing bench during games

All coaches must complete requirements by December 1.

Time Commitment

Aside from game and practice time, head coaches can expect to spend 1-3 hours per week planning and communicating and assistant coaches can expect minimal extra time commitment.

Expectations

1. SJAMHA Coach Application – All coaches must complete an SJAMHA Coach Application Form. All applicants will be contacted when their application is received, and applicants who are selected will be notified and can proceed with required training.
2. Training – All required Hockey Canada NCCP (E Hockey/ Hockey University) training and Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders training must be complete by December 1.
3. Code of Conduct – Coaches must abide by the SJAMHA Code of Conduct, which are guidelines that promote fair play and respect for all participants.
4. Equipment – All on-ice coaches must always wear a helmet.  On-ice coach and instructors are encouraged to wear athletic attire (track suit or athletic pants and sweatshirt).
